Harvest Dance

The Harvest Dance We are proud to announce the Second Annual Chamber Harvest Dance! The Chamber board is excited to share a fun and entertaining evening with local friends, neighbors, and business partners in Piscataquis County on Saturday, September 25, 2010. We invite you to come and join us at our dance and enjoy food, music, and an evening out. Who: Anyone may purchase tickets from any of the board members, or by contacting the Chamber of Commerce office @ 564-7533. When: September 25, 2010 7- midnight What: The Chamber of Commerce is hosting a community dance in an effort to raise funds to support our non-profit organization. The Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization. Our mission is to unify and promote business and stimulate regional growth. Where: The Red Barn is located on the Range Rd. in Dover-Foxcroft. To find them, first drive into the town of Dover-Foxcroft, and head out past Foxbrook Variety onto the Bangor Rd. Take your first left onto Range Rd. Follow that straight until you come to a 4 way intersection. Drive straight through the intersection. The Red Barn will be a couple of miles up the road on the left. Why: The Chamber of Commerce is excited to bring a fun, entertaining event to our local friends and neighbors, while trying to raise funds for the Chamber. This is another great reason to stay local and enjoy all that we have to offer in Piscataquis County. Brownville-KI and Beyond 30 Mi. Sled Dog Race
The Maine Highlands Sled Dog Club (TMHSDC) http://www.critterwoods.com/ Brownville-KI and Beyond 30 Mile Sled Dog Race Saturday January 29, 2011 A. Race Course: The race start will be on Railroad Avenue, Brownville, Maine. There will be one road crossing which traverses a little-used dirt road. Trails will be groomed (a minimum of 8 feet wide) by the Brownville Snowmobile Club. The 30-mile race trail is a scenic out and back course that traverses varied terrain. The first and last nine miles are on the historic Katahdin Iron Works (KI) railroad bed. The remainder of course will take you from KI to the Gulf Hagas parking lot where you will loop around the parking lot and return to Brownville. B. Conditions of Entry (See next page for entry form): Each driver agrees to hold the TMHSDC, the Town of Brownville and any sponsor(s), landowners and other contributors harmless from any claim or demand based on any alleged action or inaction by the driver, his dogs, agents, or others acting in his/her behalf. The driver also agrees to release the town, the sled dog club, sponsors, contributors, and volunteers from any claim or demand resulting from injury to the driver, his/her dogs, or his/her property. C Race philosophy: This is a trophy race only. The Maine Sled Dog Club s intent most of all that mushers and dogs alike can have a good time. This race will most likely be part of Brownville s winter activities. We encourage beginning mushers and more experienced mushers who are willing to share their knowledge. We intend to have shorter trails (five and ten miles) available for those who just want to take teams out for a fun run. We also encourage mushers to bring teams to train and condition their dogs after racing teams have departed. D. Classes: Six (6) dog class, at least 5 to start. Unlimited, Seven (7) or more to start with a maximum of twelve (12) dogs, if safe trail conditions allow. E. Race rules are contained in TMHSDC By-Laws. F. Race Start: The official start date is Saturday, January 29, 2011, Railroad Avenue, Brownville, Maine. The starting time is 10:00 a.m. eastern standard time. Teams are required to be at the staging area by 8:30 a.m. to allow race officials to check dogs and mandatory gear. No 30 Mile Race entries will be accepted after 8:30 a.m. on race day. The drivers meeting will be at 9:00 a. m. in the staging area. Order of start will be determined by your placement in the staging area. G. Race Officials: Race Marshall Gary Chapman, Chief Judge Allan Thomas, Race Manager Terry Knowles, Parking Attendant Dan Pelletier and Chief Timer Elaine Thomas. E. Lodging and Directions to race site: Lodging is available at the Wildwoods Lodge located in Brownville, Maine telephone 207-965-0000. Wildwoods location is approximately 8 miles from the staging area. You may also click on the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce website for other available lodging at http://www.piscataquischamber.com/ . Directions to the staging area are as follows: Turn onto Railroad Avenue off State Route 11 which runs between Brownville, Maine and Millinocket, Maine. You will travel down Railroad Avenue one-half mile to the staging area. You must park where you are instructed to park by the Parking Attendant. F. Race site: Food, drinks, and warm water are available at staging area.
