The Brewster Inn - Dexter

I had a wonderful opportunity to visit with Chamber Member Mark Stephens, owner of the Brewster Inn in Dexter, on October 16th, 2013. The Inn and grounds were beautiful, and I really enjoyed hearing Mark explain the history of the inn.
The first house on the site of what is now The Brewster Inn was built in the 1800s, and became home of Senator and Mrs. Ralph Owen Brewster in the 1870s, and was used for family parties and political social gatherings.
Eventually, Ralph Owens became the owner and in 1934, the house was torn down to the supporting walls and replaced by the building you see today—apart from the upgrades made by Mark Stephens after he purchased the home in 2007; he has replaced some wallpaper and paint, added several rooms, improved the lighting and heating, and planted many new bulbs and perennials.
In 1988, the home was opened as The Brewster Inn, a bed and breakfast, and was entered into the National Register of Historic Places.
FUN FACT: The story of the conflict between Senator Brewster and Howard Hughes was well documented in film, The Aviator, in which Alan Alda portrays the Senator.
